Scheduled Group Walks will generally be in the range of 5-8 miles, with the occasional leg stretcher at 9-10 miles.
All walks will start at 09:00 a.m. and we will aim to finish before 1:00 p.m. unless otherwise stated in the walk description (e.g. leg stretcher).
We will walk at a steady, but relaxed pace, with plenty of short stops to enjoy the landscape and views, take a breather, drink or snack.
Two types of walks are offered at Walk Galloway.
Countryside Walks
These walks are mainly on woodland paths, coastal paths, field paths, forest tracks/roads, good hill paths, minor roads, and roads with the possibility of very short sections of rougher ground.
Hill and Moorland Walks
These walks can include any of the underfoot conditions contained in the Countryside Walks, but will also include longer sections of rough moorland paths or pathless terrain. Participants should be comfortable walking on uneven ground.
Countryside Walks v Hill and Moorland Walks.
The key difference between the two types is the underfoot ground conditions; I understand that many people prefer to walk on paths and trails, whilst others are comfortable walking over rough, sometimes pathless terrain. The distance and ascent/descent of the two types of walk may well be the same in many cases, but the underfoot conditions of the Hill & Moorland Walks will be more challenging.
Note, walks are not offered as ‘nature walks’, but all walk participants are encouraged to share their knowledge of the countryside and wildlife with other members of the group. My personal goal is for you to get outside and enjoy your time in Galloway.
Please read the Booking Terms & Conditions carefully before making a booking.
